As the Chief Investment Officer, Brad manages the firm’s research team. He is a member of the Investment Policy Committee and is responsible for the oversight of our equity strategies. Brad has analytical responsibilities in securities and has primary coverage across several sectors. In addition, he serves as co-investment advisor to Marlborough North American Fund.

Prior to joining Boston Financial Management in 2011, Brad was an Actuary and Senior Consultant at Mercer.

He is a graduate of the University of Vermont with an undergraduate degree in Economics. He also graduated summa cum laude from Babson College with a Master in Business Administration.

Personal Interests

Brad enjoys spending time with his family, snowboarding and following Boston sports teams.

As the Director of Fixed Income and a Managing Director, Karen is responsible for developing and articulating our fixed income strategy. She has extensive experience utilizing both taxable and tax-exempt strategies and securities. Karen is Chair of the firm’s Investment Policy Committee.

Karen joined Boston Financial Management in 2006 after 16 years with Brown Brothers Harriman. As a Vice President, she managed institutional and individual client portfolios. Prior to that, she was a Vice President and Institutional Portfolio Manager at Bank of Boston.

Karen graduated from Syracuse University with a Master of Public Administration from the Maxwell School and a Ph.D. in Social Science.

It is with great sadness that we inform you of the recent passing of Charlie Casazza, Chief Investment Strategist at Boston Financial Management. Charlie passed away at Tufts NE Medical Center on July 19, 2017 after a sudden illness.

Charlie has been a member of the BFM team for over 14 years and worked closely with our current Chief Investment Officer, Brad Weafer. He served as BFM’s Chief Investment Officer for over 10 years before handing the reins to Brad a few years ago. 

Charlie was a highly respected investor and acted as our part-time economist for the past several years. He was a gifted writer and wrote our newsletter, The Financial Pages for 12 years. Charlie was a mentor to many of our employees and was always happy to discuss his views on the market.

Charlie graduated from Northeastern University with a BA in Finance in 1968. He was a member of the US Army Reserves during the Vietnam War, serving as a medic. He enjoyed a 50-year career in the investment business. Throughout his adult life, Charlie enjoyed tennis, golf, fishing and boating. He is survived by his two children, Jeffrey P. Casazza and Kristen E. Casazza, former wife Elizabeth B. Casazza and his beloved Airedale, Maggie.

Charlie has many friends at BFM, in Boston and in our industry and was a very special guy! He will be sorely missed by all those he touched.

As an Equity Analyst on the research team, Tim is responsible for the coverage of existing investments and generating new ideas. He is also a member of the Investment Policy Committee that forms the asset allocation and investment direction for the firm.

Tim joined Boston Financial Management in 2008, working in corporate finance and operations. He then spent several years as a member of the client service group before transitioning to his current role in equity research. Prior to joining Boston Financial Management, he worked at BNY Mellon in both the client service and private equity divisions.

Tim earned his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Boston University’s School of Management with a concentration in Finance.

As a Portfolio Manager Associate, Jay is responsible for acting as a liaison between the research group and portfolio managers.  He assists in the implementation of firm-wide buy and sell decisions as well as monitors existing accounts to remain compliant with client investment policy.

Before joining Boston Financial Management in 2017, Jay worked in fixed income trading for BNY Mellon Wealth Management. 

Jay graduated cum laude from Framingham State University, majoring in Finance and Economics.

Jay enjoys playing golf and ice hockey as well as traveling.  He is also a passionate Bruins and Patriots fan.

As a Research Analyst, Tim is responsible for covering existing investments and generating new ideas.

Before joining Boston Financial Management in 2016, Tim was with Susquehanna Financial Group covering industrials. Prior to Susquehanna, Tim was an Analyst and Forensic Accountant, conducting short-biased equity research across a wide variety of sectors with Off Wall Street Consulting and Voyant Advisors, LLC. Tim has also held operations roles at DB HedgeWorks, LLC and State Street Corporation.

Tim is a graduate of Tufts University with an undergraduate degree in Economics, and has received a professional certificate in accounting from the University of California, San Diego extension school.

As a Research Analyst, Ethan is responsible for analyzing, recommending, and presenting investment opportunities. He maintains and analyzes data related to investment decisions for due diligence, compliance, risk management, and performance attribution.

Before joining Boston Financial Management in 2016, Ethan was with Emerson Investment Management where he was a Research Associate covering large-cap equities and supporting the multi-asset strategy. Prior to Emerson, he was in valuation services with Grant Thornton within the Forensics and Dispute Services. Ethan has also held positions at Deloitte & Touche and Kenmore Consulting.

Ethan graduated cum laude with a B.S. in Business Administration from Boston University.
